State of the Union: Toronto FC's toothless attack a big concern
Toronto FC can’t afford to ignore the elephant in the room for much longer.
The current situation with TFC’s crop of forwards isn’t tenable and something will have to be done about it sooner rather than later. That point was driven home rather forcefully during Saturday’s 3-1 home loss to Sporting Kansas City, a game that saw the Reds concede more goals than they did through their first five outings of the season.
Without the injured Lorenzo Insigne, Toronto looked short of ideas in the final third of the pitch and only registered two shots on target, the second of which came via Jonathan Osorio's injury-time goal with the very last kick of the game. TFC didn’t exhibit any genuine quality in and around the box, their final touch and pass routinely letting them down.
Simply put, TFC’s attack has been toothless this year. A tally of six goals in six games isn't good enough. What’s even more troubling is that just one of those goals came from a forward – Prince Owusu scored the insurance marker in a 2-0 home win over Atlanta on March 23.
