Rookie Adam Pearlman patiently waiting for his chance with TFC
In this 1-on-1 interview, Pearlman discusses growing up in South Africa, his journey from the youth academy to Toronto FC, and more.
Still only 19, Adam Pearlman has been on a very long journey during a soccer career that began in South Africa and has taken him into the first team at Toronto FC.
Born in Johannesburg, Pearlman developed a love for the sport thanks in large part to his older brother Jared and his parents who were both athletes. Pearlman was seven years old when the family immigrated to Canada in 2012 and he continued to pursue his passion while playing for the Glen Shields Soccer Club and Future Soccer Academy in and around Thornhill, Ont.
He originally joined TFC's youth academy in 2016 before signing with TFC 2 in 2022. Pearlman spent the past two years with the Young Reds where he made 48 appearances, including 47 starts. In his debut season with TFC 2 he was named to the MLS NEXT All-Star Game and helped them qualify for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
Last year, he was signed to a short-term loan by Toronto FC and made his MLS debut as a substitute against St. Louis City SC on July 8. At the same time, Pearlman played in 26 games (25 starts) and logged a team-high 2,233 minutes for TFC 2 in 2023.
