Toronto FC vs. Simcoe County Rovers: 3 takeaways
Prince Owusu continued his hot run of form for TFC in their Canadian Championship victory over the League1 Ontario champions.
Toronto FC put the hammer down on Wednesday at BMO Field in a 5-0 win over League1 Ontario champions Simcoe County Rovers in the first round of the 2024 Canadian Championship.
It was a night of balanced scoring from TFC, who received goals from Prince Owusu, Cassius Mailula, Kevin Long, Jonathan Osorio and Tyrese Spicer, while Luka Gavran made three saves to earn the clean sheet. The Reds advanced to the quarter-finals where they'll meet either the CPL's Halifax Wanderers FC or League1 Quebec champions CS St-Laurent.
"It's an important competition [the Canadian Championship] for many reasons. One, to call yourself the best team in Canada, and two, to qualify for the Concacaf [Champions Cup]. That's a big thing for this club always, and I know looking forward that's a competition that we're looking to play in and compete in," captain Osorio said.
Here are my three major takeaways from Wednesday's contest.
