Toronto FC falls short in shutout loss to New York City FC

  • Toronto FC 0, New York City FC 1 (Martínez 64’)
  • TFC’s previous win at BMO Field was on Sept. 14, 2024
  • Sharp earns 1st career start; 1st MLS start for Dominguez

TORONTO – Home is supposed to be where the heart is, but in the case of Toronto FC, it’s had its heart ripped from its chest.

TFC saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end courtesy of a 1-0 loss to New York City FC on a windy Saturday afternoon at BMO Field.

Toronto (1-5-1) was riding high after registering its first win of the season last week but came crashing down to earth with a somewhat tame showing against New York (4-4-2) who had just one win in its previous five outings.

There wasn't much that separated TFC and NYCFC in this one, with Alonso Martínez's goal from the penalty spot proving decisive. Still, this was a winnable game for TFC against a mediocre opponent, so it'll fell like a blown opportunity for the Reds.
