Loan deal a chance for Toronto FC's Hugo Mbongue to grow
Even though he's barely featured for TFC, the young forward "definitely could have a future in this game,” according to Robin Fraser.

Although soft spoken and a man of few words, Hugo Mbongue wasn’t short of confidence during his first full season with Toronto FC in 2023.
Mbongue came up through the youth academy and cut his teeth with TFC 2 before signing as a homegrown player with the first team on Sept. 13, 2022, while still only 18. He made his MLS debut a month later which gave him a taste for more action.
“I don’t think it’s unrealistic to say I can become a starter,” Mbongue told TFC Republic during the summer of 2023.
It didn’t work out that way for the Toronto native, though. Mbongue played in only 12 league games (one start, 277 total minutes) across the 2023 campaign without scoring or collecting an assist.
