Forge's Kyle Bekker on TFC: 'We know we're able to compete at that level'
For Forge FC, Tuesday's match vs. Toronto FC is a chance for its players to showcase their talents on a much bigger stage.
Reigning Canadian Premier League champions Forge FC have gone from one high stakes game to another.
Last Friday, Forge faced bitter rivals York United FC – who have surged up the standings following the appointment of new coach Benjamin Mora – and fought to keep atop the league table with a 0-0 road draw. Now, they are on the eve of testing themselves against Toronto FC at BMO Field in the second leg of the Canadian Championship semifinals.
TFC represents a huge test to Forge’s championship aspirations, which is par for the course when it comes to long-time captain Kyle Bekker and his teammates. Together, under the leadership of coach Bobby Smyrniotis, they’ve won four out of five CPL championships since the launch of the league in 2019. Adding a Voyageurs Cup to their trophy haul is something they’ve publicly prioritized.
