Toronto FC is out of the Leagues Cup, but not without an incredible fight.
TFC came out on the wrong end of a 4-3 decision to Inter Miami at Chase Stadium on Thursday night in a round of 32 contest that will go down in the history books.
A wildly entertaining and eventful contest produced five goals, two penalty kicks converted by Lorenzo Insigne and a red card to Miami defender David Martinez in the first half. Toronto played with the man advantage for 62 minutes but couldn’t make the most of it as it bowed out of the continental competition.
Matías Rojas bagged a brace and Jordi Alba collected four assists for Miami who kept alive its hopes of repeating as League Cup champions. They’ll now meet the winner of Friday's matchup between the Columbus Crew and Sporting Kansas City in the round of 16 next week.
