Toronto FC came up short in a 4-3 loss vs. Inter Miami in a wild round of 32 contest on Thursday despite playing a man up for over an hour.
TFC had a disastrous start to the contest and was continuously chasing Miami, even after the hosts had defender David Martinez sent off for his red card offence on substitute Prince Owusu.
"We lost the fight early in the game, that first 15 minutes, and by the time we recovered to get in the fight, we were climbing an uphill battle," TFC coach John Herdman told reporters after the defeat.
He added: "I think it's a missed opportunity for our club."
