Davies, Larin highlight Canada’s Gold Cup roster
Canada is headed into this month’s Concacaf Gold Cup with guns a-blazing.
Coach John Herdman unveiled his 23-man roster on Thursday for the biennial continental competition, a list that includes Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Besiktas’ Cyle Larin. Both players are coming off outstanding individual seasons, helping their pro clubs win their respective league titles.
Jonathan David is not on the Canadian roster, however. Herdman revealed that the Lille forward dealt with a groin injury during last month's World Cup qualifiers and was on anti-inflammatories to get him through the games. In light of that, Herdman decided not to select David for Gold Cup duty, but he expects the goal-scorer to be available for selection when World Cup qualifying resumes in September.
