CanWNT Talk: A lacklustre start to the FIFA World Cup
The Canadian women's team stumbled out of the gate at the FIFA World Cup, as it settled for a 0-0 draw against Nigeria in Melbourne in its opening match of the tournament.
Captain Christine Sinclair played 71 minutes as a starter in her 22nd appearance in her sixth World Cup, a performance that was marked by her failed penalty attempt early in the second half. Notably, Jessie Fleming didn't play as she wasn't fully fit.
Australia tops Group B with three points, ahead of Canada and Nigeria (one point apiece) and Ireland (zero points). The top two teams move on to the knockout round. The Canadians will next take on the Republic of Ireland at the Perth Rectangular Stadium on July 26 (8:00 a.m. ET/TSN).
In the latest TFC Republic video blog, I break down Canada's performance against Nigeria.
