Canada blanked by Panama in World Cup qualifying finale
The Canadians lost 1-0 in Panama on Wednesday night, but still managed to finish atop the Concacaf table.
- Canada 0, Panama 1 (Torres 49’)
- Canadians finish 1st, but miss out on Pot 3 for World Cup draw
- Reds suffer only 2nd second loss in 20 Concacaf qualifying games
Playing its third game in seven days in three countries, Canada finally ran out of gas on Wednesday evening.
The Reds dropped a 1-0 decision to Panama in its finale of the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers, suffering only the second loss of its entire 20-match campaign.
Both physical and mental fatigue had clearly set in for the Canadians at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, as they looked lethargic in attack after romping to a victory on the weekend at BMO Field to clinch a berth for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Reds managed just one shot on target vs. Panama, didn’t look particularly dangerous inside the opposition's half, and their final product in and around Panama’s box was lacking.
