Canada vs. Sweden at the Tokyo Olympics: What you need to know
Canada has changed the colour of the medal at the Tokyo Olympics. But will it be gold or silver?
After winning bronze at London 2012 and Rio 2016, Canada has changed the colour of the medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. All that is left to do for the Canadians is to determine if it'll be silver or gold when they play Sweden in the tournament final.
Sweden, No. 5 in the current FIFA rankings, is a perfect 5-0-0 at the Olympics, so they have to be considered the favourite going into the gold medal game. But Canada, ranked No. 8, has the momentum after upsetting the top-ranked United States 1-0 in the semifinals.
While Sweden is making its second straight appearance in the women’s Olympic final, after losing to Germany in Rio, Canada will be making its debut in the gold medal match.
Here’s what you need to know about Friday's game (8:00 a.m. ET) between Canada and Sweden at Yokohama Stadium.
