Canada loses to U.S. in Concacaf W Championship final

Canada’s perfect run at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship came to a bitter end on Monday night in Mexico.
An Alex Morgan goal off a soft penalty was the difference as the United States earned a 1-0 win over Canada in the tournament final at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey.
The decisive moment in the tight contest came when Canadian fullback Allysha Chapman was judged to have tripped up Rose Lavelle from behind inside the 18-yard box, with the American player going down far too easily. Canadian coach Bev Priestman didn't agree with the call, and felt VAR should have stepped in.
"I think it was a soft penalty. But these things happen. A penalty is a penalty, and it was a decision that was made," Priestman told reporters after the game.
