Canada vs. the United States has quietly developed into one of the best Concacaf rivalries on the men's side in recent years.
So, it's more than fitting that the Reds and the Stars and Stripes, arguably the top two nations in the region, should meet in this weekend's Concacaf Nations League final.
Canada confidently earned a 2-0 win over Panama in the semifinals on Thursday. On the same day, the U.S. blanked Mexico 3-0 in a crazy match to advance to the tournament's championship match. Canada is 47th in the current FIFA world rankings. The U.S. is 13th.
"We took a step tonight. But it means nothing unless you win [Sunday’s final] ... We’ve got that little bit of desire in us, and it’s exciting. But we’ve got some work to do," coach John Herdman said after the win vs. Panama.
