Gilles' goal lifts Canada to win vs. Germany at Arnold Clark Cup
Bev Priestman’s side collected its first victory of 2022, and sits atop the table after two games with four points and just one goal against.
- Canada 1 (Gilles 7’), Germany 0
- Canadians earn only 2nd win over Germans in 17 meetings
- Gilles scores her 1st goal in 16 appearances for Canada
It was far from pretty, but the Canadian women’s team is now undefeated in two games at the Arnold Clark Cup after earning a rare win over the Germans.
Defender Vanessa Gilles’ early goal was the difference in Canada’s 1-0 against Germany on Sunday at Carrow Road in Norwich, England.
Germany had won 15 of its previous 16 encounters against Canada dating back to their first meeting against each other in 1994. Canada’s only other win in the series came during the group stage of the 2016 Rio Olympics where the Germans went on to win the gold medal.
