Canada vs. Nigeria in home friendly: What you need to know
The Canadian women's team's Celebration Tour rolls on.
Canada earned a 2-0 win over Nigeria on Friday at Vancouver's BC Place in the opener of a two-game series of international friendlies that represent the second leg of the Olympic champions' Celebration Tour. Canada hadn't played at home since last October when it beat New Zealand in a pair of games in Montreal and Ottawa, and was given a warm welcome by the crowd in Vancouver.
Not only did the BC fans celebrate Canada's gold medal achievement from last summer, but they had the chance to say goodbye to veteran goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé in her final match before retiring. Also, before the match, captain Christine Sinclair was recognized for her international goal scoring record.
Now that all the festivities are out of the way, what can we expect in the rematch between the two nations?
Here’s what you need to know about Monday's game (10:30 p.m. ET) between Canada and Nigeria at Starlight Stadium in Langford, B.C.
