TFC Republic's Player of the Year for 2023: Kobe Franklin
This year’s version of Toronto FC was the worst in franchise history.
The 2012 iteration of the MLS team was notorious for its dysfunction on and off the field and famous for losing nine straight games to begin the year. But even that side managed to win five matches and collect 23 points in a 34-game season.
Those modest benchmarks proved to be beyond the capabilities of this year's TFC team who capped off a disastrous 2023 campaign with seven straight losses. In doing so, Toronto (4-20-10, 22 points) set new franchise records for the fewest wins and points in a single MLS season as it finished dead last in the overall league standings while missing the playoffs for a third straight year.
One of the few bright spots from an individual perspective was the play of Kobe Franklin. For this reason, Franklin has been named TFC Republic’s Player of the Year for 2023.
