Canadian women's team end 2024 on a positive note
- Canada 5 (Lim Seon-joo OG 22’; Alidou 52’; Smith 58’; Gilles 78’; Leon 90’+2’), South Korea 1 (Hyok-Yung Lee 76')
- Megan Reid, Jeneva Hernandez Gray, Nyah Rose make their senior team debuts
- Canadians finished 2024 with a record of 12 wins, 3 losses and 3 draws
After stumbling its way through a goal-less draw last week, the Canadian women’s team rebounded in style with an emphatic display in its final match of the year.
Marie-Yasmine Alidou, Olivia Smith, Vanessa Gilles and Adriana Leon scored second-half goals to guide Canada to a convincing 5-1 win over South Korea in Tuesday’s international friendly at Pinatar Arena in Murcia, Spain. Gilles and Smith also earned assists for Canada who benefited from a first-half own-goal in a dominant performance against a completely overmatched South Korean side.
Tuesday’s result means Canada ended 2024 with a record of 12 wins, three losses and three draws.
"We set an objective to finish out the year strong and I'm really happy that they got to do it their way. We were focusing on not just what's foundational to us, but the details of the game, especially in and around the final third. So, with the five goals tonight, we were really pleased with that performance," interim coach Cindy Tye told reporters after the game.
