Toronto FC has signed English midfielder Matty Longstaff to a contract through 2025 with an option for 2026.
Quick analysis: Longstaff, 23, spent the previous four seasons at Newcastle United where he scored three goals in 20 matches in all competitions, including appearances in 14 Premier League contests. He netted his first goal for the Magpies when he scored the winner against Manchester United, marking his Premier League debut in style on Oct. 6, 2019 at St James’ Park.
