Toronto FC will host CF Montreal on April 30
We already knew that Toronto FC was going to host CF Montreal in the first round of the 2025 Canadian Championship thanks to the official draw conducted by Canada Soccer in December.
Now we know when the teams will meet, as Canada Soccer confirmed the complete schedule for the first round on Tuesday, with TFC slated to welcome Montreal to BMO Field on April 30 (7:00 p.m. ET/OneSoccer).
The winner of that game advances to the two-legged quarter-finals where it will face the winner of the first-round match between Forge FC and Halifax Wanderers. The first round and the final are single matches, while the quarter-finals and semifinals are two-legged series.
A secondary draw will be held at a later date to determine the semifinal matchups as well as the pathway to hosting the final.
Toronto has won the Canadian Championship a record eight times, followed by Montreal (five). But Vancouver has won three in a row (four total) and defeated Toronto in last year's final.
The winner of the 2025 Canadian Championship qualifies for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup, thus receiving a chance to advance for the 2027 FIFA Club World Cup.
This year's Canadian Championship marks the tournament debut of Edmonton Scottish United FC and Scrosoppi FC (from Milton, Ont.). Fifteen teams will be involved, making its the biggest competition in the history of the Canadian Championship, with League1 Alberta represented for the first time by inaugural champions Edmonton Scottish United.
