The Canadian women’s team scored early, scored often and scored easily on Tuesday to win the Pinatar Cup.

Canada received a first half hat trick from Marie-Yasmine Alidou, a brace from Jordyn Huitema and goals from Megan Reid and Clarissa Larisey to breeze to a 7-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in Murcia, Spain in its final match of the round-robin competition. It’s the team’s first piece of hardware since winning gold at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and first under newly-hired head coach Casey Stoney.

Canada won the round-robin, invitational tournament with seven points, ahead of Mexico (six points), China (four points) and Chinese Taipei (zero points). Canada opened the campaign with a 1-1 draw against China before earning a 2-0 win over Mexico. The Mexicans defeated China 2-0 earlier on Tuesday, which meant Canada had to win this match in order to lift the Pinatar Cup.
