Emma Regan has yet to kick a ball with AFC Toronto, but she's already making history with the Canadian women's team.

Regan is one of the first two Northern Super League players to earn a national team call-up, as the 25-year-old defender from Burnaby, B.C., and Vancouver Rise midfielder Samantha Chang were named to Canada's latest roster on Thursday.

New coach Casey Stoney has assembled a 26-player squad ahead of Canada's participation at the Pinatar Cup, a four-nation, invitational tournament taking place in Spain. Ranked No. 6 in the world, the Canadians take on No. 17 China on Feb. 19 before facing No. 31 Mexico on Feb. 22 and No. 42 Taiwan on Feb. 25. All three games will be played at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia.

"Firstly, for the women's game in Canada, [the NSL] is a huge step. To professionalize the game and have professional teams is massive," Stoney told reporters on Thursday.
