TFC Talk: Could the Italian DPs actually leave the Reds?
GM Jason Hernandez caused a bit of stir this week when discussing the future of Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi at Toronto FC.
Speaking at an event for season ticket-holders on Thursday, Hernandez said both Italian designated players might not remain with TFC for the 2025 MLS campaign. Hernandez explained that Toronto regularly receives inquiries about both players during transfer windows, and revealed that discussions continue with Insigne and his representatives about his future at the club.
"I would say those conversations are still ongoing, and so, like [Keith Pelley] mentioned previously, everything is on the table," Hernandez said.
He added: "Certainly, [Insigne and Bernardeschi are] two players that are under contract. Is there a world where not both of those players are under contract to start the season? Yes, there is a world where that is the assessment."
TFC Republic spoke to fellow Toronto FC beat reporter James Grossi, who was in attendance for Thursday's fan event, about the future of the Italian DPs, the addition of Steven Beitashour to the coaching staff and much more.
