Toronto FC's Jonathan Osorio eager to 'change the narrative'
The TFC veteran is eager to hit the ground running when the new season kicks off to help the club set things right.
As Toronto FC’s longest serving player, Jonathan Osorio has lived through the best and worst of times with the club.
The Canadian international is the last remaining member of the 2017 treble winning side who is still with TFC, but those glory days seem like a lifetime ago. Since lifting the MLS Cup, the Reds have only twice qualified for the playoffs and have failed to make the post-season in each of the past three campaigns. Last year, the Reds finished dead last in the league’s overall table and set new club records for the fewest wins (four) and points (22) in a single MLS season.
So far, TFC’s roster remains almost entirely intact from 2023 with very few changes. The only newcomers who were signed during the winter were midfielder Deybi Flores and top draft pick Tyrese Spicer. With the start of the 2024 season less than five weeks away, there are growing concerns amongst the team’s loyal fanbase as to whether Toronto will be able to immediately turn things around under new coach John Herdman.
But Osorio, 31, wasn’t all doom and gloom at the start of training camp last week. Instead, he is eager to hit the ground running when the new season kicks off in late February to help TFC set things right.
