Casey Stoney named new coach of Canadian women's team

Canada Soccer has officially moved on from the Bev Priestman era.

Canadian soccer’s governing body announced on Monday the hiring of Casey Stoney as the new coach of its women’s team, a move that comes more than six months after Priestman was sent home from the Paris Olympics for her involvement in the drone spying scandal.

“Casey’s track record of successful leadership, her values and strength of character, and her lifelong dedication to the advancement of women’s football make her the right person to lead our national team into its next chapter,” Kevin Blue, CEO and General Secretary of Canada Soccer, said in a media release.

Stoney has been signed a three-year contract with Canada Soccer that runs through the next World Cup, with an option for 2028. She will begin her tenure with a three-match series in February at the Pinatar Cup in Spain, Canada Soccer revealed.
