How Theo Corbeanu's move to TFC is viewed in Spanish circles
Spanish football reporter Chema Ruiz talks to TFC Republic about the Canadian international's tenure with Granada CF.
Looking to bolster its attack, Toronto FC announced the acquisition of Canadian international winger Theo Corbeanu last week.
Corbeanu, a 22-year-old native of Hamilton, Ont., joined TFC from Spanish side Granada CF on loan for the duration of the 2025 MLS season. The Reds also have a purchase option once the loan deal is over. Corbeanu is under contract to Granada through the 2027 season.
Corbeanu signed with Granada last February and scored his first goal for the club the following month. Granada was relegated from La Liga to Spain's second division at the end of last season. In total, Corbeanu played in 22 games for Granada — nine in La Liga, and 10 in the second division in 2024-25, as well as three Copa del Rey appearances.
Chema Ruiz is a football reporter who covers Granada CF for GranadaDigital. He also broke the story about Corbeanu's loan move to Toronto. In this one-on-one interview with TFC Republic, Ruiz discusses how Corbeanu's loan deal with Toronto FC is viewed in Granada FC circles, how the Canadian fell down the team's depth chart, whether he'll be back at the Spanish club, and much more.
