Pragmatism will be key for Toronto FC under Robin Fraser

TFC’s new coach wants his side to become masters of exploiting “time edges,” rather than constantly playing at a quicker tempo.

Pragmatism will be key for Toronto FC under Robin Fraser

How do you fix the slew of problems facing Toronto FC? That’s the burning question facing Robin Fraser since his appointment as TFC’s head coach earlier this month.

With the start of the 2025 MLS regular season less than a month away – the Reds open their campaign away to D.C. United on Feb. 22 – Fraser has to tackle some serious issues stemming from the 2024 campaign.

How does Fraser get the most out of underperforming Italian DP Lorenzo Insigne, who was limited to just four goals and seven assists in the league? How does he ignite an attacking unit that lost its top scorer, didn’t have a single player who hit double digits in goals in MLS and who scored just 40 times? How does he strengthen a back line that conceded 61 goals?

Fraser has to figure all of this out without the benefit of having his full roster in place, as GM Jason Hernandez is still looking to add pieces to the squad ahead of the start of the campaign.
