Toronto FC upset by Forge FC in Canadian Championship

- CPL champs hold edge in 2-legged series after upset win over TFC
- Reds suffer 7th loss in a row, now winless in 10 in all competitions
HAMILTON – Already mired in a terrible losing slump in MLS, Toronto FC is now floundering in the Canadian Championship.
A 2-1 upset loss to Canadian Premier League champions Forge FC in Wednesday’s first leg of the tournament semifinals at Tim Hortons Field further compounded the woes of a struggling TFC side.
Toronto has now lost seven games in a row and is winless in its last 10 with just one victory in its previous 13 outings in all competitions. The Reds’ previous victory came in an 8-1 decision over semi-professional outfit CS Saint-Laurent in the quarter-finals of the Canadian Championship on May 21.
Like the quarter-finals, the semifinals are contested over two legs, so Forge has the slight advantage going into the return match on Aug. 27 at BMO Field. The other semifinal sees the Vancouver Whitecaps tangle with Pacific FC of the CPL. The winner of that series will host the one-match final in late September. Vancouver earned a 1-0 road win in the first leg on Wednesday.
