Toronto FC returns to losing ways in defeat to Inter Miami
Even with Lionel Messi ruled out, Miami managed to get the better of TFC on Wednesday night.
- Toronto FC 1 (Etienne Jr. 80), Inter Miami 3 (Gómez 43’; Redondo 53’, 59’)
- Richie Laryea, Jonathan Osorio return to the lineup for TFC for 1st time since June 1
- Miami was missing Lionel Messi (injured) and fellow DP Sergio Busquets (suspended)
The calvary was called in but it still wasn't enough to help Toronto FC on Wednesday night.
Buoyed by the returning Richie Laryea and captain Jonathan Osorio, TFC looked strong in the opening 45 minutes before falling apart in the second half en route to a 3-1 loss to Inter Miami at Chase Stadium.
While an injured Lionel Messi was missing for Miami, fellow Argentinian Federico Redondo stepped up with his first two career MLS goals and an assist to send TFC to their seventh loss in eight games.
Toronto (8-14-3) remains eighth in the Eastern Conference and is still clinging to the second-last playoff berth with nine matches remaining in the season. But all seven teams below TFC in the table are within five points, with six of those sides having games in hand.
