Toronto FC vs. New York Red Bulls: What you need to know
TFC opens their 2024 Leagues Cup campaign with a tricky road game vs. the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.
For the second time in just over a month, Toronto FC and the New York Red Bulls will clash in a battle of MLS rivals this weekend.
But the match won't count towards the Eastern Conference table or the playoff race. Instead, it'll be both teams' opening group stage match of the Leagues Cup.
"This is an exciting opportunity for the team. We've been battling in MLS and had a lot of games in recent times fighting for a playoff spot and to stay in the playoffs. So, this is sort of a welcome distraction for the group," coach John Herdman said on Friday.
