Canada blanks Mexico in Olympic tune-up in Montreal
Late goals by Adriana Leon and Cloé Lacasse allowed the Canadians to edge their Concacaf rivals on Saturday afternoon.
- Canada 2 (Leon 73’; Lacasse 86’), Mexico 0
- Leon scores her 40th goal for Canada, 9th of 2024
- Scott makes her first appearance since Nov. 11, 2022
It wasn’t pretty, but the Canadian women’s team found a way.
Canada had a pretty tough time against Mexico and struggled to break down its pesky Concacaf rival before eventually eking out a 2-0 win in Saturday’s international friendly at Montreal’s Stade Saputo.
Adriana Leon and Cloé Lacasse both scored late goals for Canada, while Evelyne Viens collected a pair of assists in this Olympic tune-up match for the reigning gold medal champions before an announced crowd of 15, 319.
It was the introduction of Viens and Lacasse in the second half that turned the match in Canada’s favour after a difficult opening half for the hosts.
