Toronto FC throws away lead in home loss to Nashville SC
- Toronto FC 1 (Coello 34’), Nashville SC 2 (Surridge 65’, 90’)
- Bernardeschi returns to lineup, collects team-high 5th assist of the season
- Coello nets his first career goal for the Reds in 39 MLS appearances
TORONTO – John Herdman issued the challenge but his players didn’t respond exactly the way he wanted.
A despondent Herdman boldly proclaimed “the real us have to show up” for Toronto FC's next outing following a disastrous display in a 4-1 home loss to the Chicago Fire last weekend.
The message didn’t get through to the Reds, who jumped out to the lead before letting it slip through their fingers in a 2-1 defeat to Nashville SC on a muggy Wednesday night at BMO Field.
Alonso Coello scored his first career MLS goal and Federico Bernardeschi recorded his team-leading fifth assist for Toronto (7-9-3) who extended its winless skid to five games (two straight losses) and hasn’t won a match in a month.
