Canada earns a big win at Copa América over Peru
  • Canada 1 (David 74’), Peru 0
  • Jonathan David scores winner, his 27th goal in 50 international appearances
  • TFC's Richie Laryea earns 1st start under Marsch; Jonathan Osorio comes off the bench

Peru coach Jorge Fossati issued a stern warning ahead of his team’s Copa América match against Canada earlier this week.

“I know my team, and they won’t back down, even if it means using their fists,” Fossati stated.

But it was Canada who delivered the knockout punch, flooring Peru with a 1-0 win on Tuesday evening at Kansas City's Children's Mercy Park.

Jonathan David scored the winner against Peru, who were reduced to 10 men for the final 31 minutes of regulation. The goal was David’s 27th in 50 international appearances and puts Canada in a strong position going into its final group stage match at the Copa.
