Canada settles for disappointing draw vs. Mexico
The Olympic champions underwhelmed in their final home game before this summer’s Paris Olympics.
- Canada 1 (Buchanan 48’), Mexico 1 (Ovalle 70’)
- Kadeisha Buchanan scores her 6th international goal
- Shelina Zadorsky earned her 100th cap for Canada
TORONTO – Could a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal come back to haunt the Canadian women’s team at this summer’s Paris Olympics?
That’s one of the lingering questions facing Canada after it closed out its two-game friendly series against Mexico with a disappointing 1-1 draw on Tuesday night before an announced crowd of 18,805 fans at BMO Field.
Kadeisha Buchanan scored her sixth career international goal for Canada in the team’s final home game before heading to France. This was also the Canadians’ last outing before coach Bev Priestman is scheduled to announce her 18-player Olympic roster on June 30.
Canada posted a 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday in Montreal in the opening match between these nations. Canada is No. 9 in the current FIFA world rankings, 22 spots above Mexico.
