Canada vs. Netherlands: What you need to know
The Canadian men's team plays its first game under new coach Jesse Marsch against the seventh-ranked Dutch on Thursday.
It's a baptism of fire for Jesse Marsch.
Hired last month by Canada Soccer as the new coach of the men's team, Marsch will take charge of the side for the first time this week with a pair of high-profile friendlies against the Netherlands and France.
Marsch hasn't had much time to settle in and has only had the benefit of a few training sessions with his squad. So, it'll be interesting to see how quickly things have come together, if they have at all, for the American who will take charge of a national team for the first time in his coaching career.
“There’s obvious challenges to being a national team coach, just because we don’t have all the time we’d wish to have together,” Marsch told reporters on Wednesday.
“However, I think the eagerness and the excitement to do what we can as a national team, to show our country and to represent our country, means everyone’s on high attention span and high alert to try to do everything — to come together, to adapt, to learn, to grow.”
Here’s what you need to know about Thursday's match between Canada and the Netherlands at Rotterdam's Stadion Feijenoord (2:45 p.m. ET/OneSoccer).
