TFC mid-season report: Where do things stand with the Reds?
John Herdman's ability to get the Italian DPs on board is just one reason why Toronto FC has enjoyed a major transformation in 2024.
We're 17 matches into the 34-game MLS regular season and it has to be said that Toronto FC have defied expectations.
A team that set franchise records in 2023 for fewest wins (four) and points (22) in a single season finds itself sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference and within touching distance of the top four at the official halfway point of the current MLS campaign.
TFC (7-7-3) are at the .500 mark and firmly in the playoff mix with the first half of the season behind them, a state of affairs that few could've predicted following the club's disastrous 2023 campaign.
“They’ve [exceeded] expectations, mostly because we just didn’t know what this season would look like under John Herdman because he hadn’t been a club coach before. … They’re at a pretty good spot right now considering what last season looked like,” MLS Season Pass commentator Sacha Kljestan told TFC Republic.
Here's where things stand with Toronto FC as it gets set to enter the second half of the MLS season.
