Toronto FC originally didn’t have a first-round pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft that took place just five days before Christmas.

But when they saw that Reid Fisher was still available, they made a trade with D.C. United for one of its first-round picks and used it to select the San Diego State defender at the No. 23 slot.

It seemed like an odd trade at the time, especially given that the Reds had to give up $50,000 in general allocation money and $50,000 in conditional GAM to D.C. in order to land the NCAA sophomore. But TFC saw something in Fisher even before the draft started, as he was on their short list of players they'd consider trading up for if he was still available at some point late in the first round.

Fisher was glad that he caught the eye of GM Jason Hernandez and technical director Sean Rubio, and now he’s eager to repay that faith after signing his first professional contract with TFC 2 last week.
