Injured Richie Laryea named to Canada's Nations League roster

Despite carrying a hamstring injury, Toronto FC wingback Richie Laryea has been named to the Canadian men’s team roster for this month’s Concacaf Nations League.

Canadian coach Jesse Marsch unveiled his 23-man roster on Wednesday, and included on his list were Laryea and Toronto captain Jonathan Osorio.

Ranked No. 31 in the world, Canada faces No.19 Mexico in the Nations League semifinals on March 20. On the same day, the United States (No. 16) meets Panama (No. 36) in the other semifinal. The two winners meet in the final slated for March 23, while the losers square off in the third-place match. All games will take place in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium, which is one of the venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Laryea, 30, was subbed out in the 22nd minute of Toronto's 4-2 road loss to Orlando City on March 1, and he missed this past weekend’s away match to FC Cincinnati that ended in a 2-0 defeat. Laryea didn’t train with TFC on Tuesday, which suggests he won’t be available for Saturday’s home opener vs. the Chicago Fire (2:30 p.m. ET/TSN & Apple TV).
