First TFC goal a breakthrough moment for Marshall-Rutty
By a lot of metrics, Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty had the best season of his young career in 2023.
After undergoing a knee operation that derailed his 2022 campaign, the Canadian rebounded last year by posting career highs for appearances (22), starts (11) and minutes (1,146) in a single MLS season.
But he wasn’t satisfied with that. He had yet to score in 51 MLS appearances from 2020 to 2023, and he admitted to TFC Republic at the end of last year that he had to start producing in the final third of the pitch.
“For sure, 100 per cent, there’s more to come from me. I feel like as a footballer you can always be giving more, with the wins, the goals, assists. That just comes with time. The feeling within the group is good under John [Herdman], so going into next season I’m very excited. But, for sure, as a young player, there’s always more to give,” he said.
