Lorenzo Insigne was back in the lineup on Saturday, but TFC still came up short away to the New York Red Bulls.

  • Insigne collected an assist after sitting out 1st four games
  • TFC are winless in 12 games vs. New York with 9 losses

There was no Hollywood ending for Lorenzo Insigne and Toronto FC on Saturday night.

The Italian DP made his MLS season debut, but his return wasn’t enough to inspire TFC, who came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Deandre Kerr came off the bench to score for Toronto (0-4-1) who has now lost four games in a row to start the campaign and is still looking for its first win under new coach Robin Fraser. Saturday’s result means TFC are winless in 12 games vs. New York with nine losses, including four consecutive defeats.

After not dressing for the first four contests of the year, Insigne started for TFC and collected an assist in an otherwise unspectacular 90-minute performance. It was Insigne’s first appearance since the club’s 2024 season finale at home on Oct. 5 when he was subbed on for the last 10 minutes. The Reds have been trying to move Insigne out since then, while Fraser has said he doesn’t fit into the team’s new playing style.
