After a solid rookie year, TFC's Alonso Coello sets his aims high
"I honestly want to be one of the best midfielders in the league. I think that's a realistic goal," the Spaniard told TFC Republic.
A lot went horribly wrong for Toronto FC in 2023.
But a rare bright spot for the club was the emergence of Alonso Coello, the former TFC 2 midfielder who signed with the first team early on in the season.
Coello, a 24-year-old from Madrid, made 21 MLS appearances (13 starts) in his rookie MLS campaign and impressed with his cultured play and composure on the ball. He also competently deputized for Michael Bradley in the centre of the park during the former captain's lengthy injury layoff.
So far in 2024 Coello has picked up where he left off from last year, having started in all five games to start the campaign while logging 388 minutes.
In this one-on-one interview with TFC Republic, Coello talks about expectations and the goals he set for himself this year, what life has been like under John Herdman and much more.
