Ola Brynhildsen offers TFC glimmer of hope in attack

TORONTO – Things haven’t gone 100 per cent according to plan for Toronto FC with Ola Brynhildsen.

Brynhildsen was acquired via a loan deal from Danish club FC Midtjylland in February in the hopes that he could offer TFC’s attack a spark after the MLS outfit netted just 40 goals last season, tied for fourth worst in the league.

Fitness and injury issues have limited him to just three appearances (one start) totalling 107 minutes, and he has yet to record a goal or collect an assist. But the Norwegian forward has looked promising during his cameos for the Reds, including coming off the bench in Toronto’s 0-0 home draw vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.

Toronto’s attack looked limp and uninspired against the Whitecaps. Brynhildsen’s introduction in the 53rd minute changed that, as his dangerous and intelligent runs both on and off the ball stretched the Whitecaps’ back line. The Norwegian proved to be a thorn in Vancouver’s side in and around the penalty area, as evidenced by the three free kicks that he earned after coming on for an injured Deandre Kerr.
