Toronto FC earns its first win of John Herdman era
Lorenzo Insigne started and scored to propel TFC to a rare road win over the New England Revolution on Sunday afternoon.
- Toronto FC 1 (Insigne 27’), New England Revolution 0
- Insigne bagged his 1st goal for TFC since last August
- Reds end their road scoring drought at 433 minutes
Toronto FC fans have been very patient with Lorenzo Insigne.
Insigne arrived in Toronto in the summer of 2022 amidst fanfare and big expectations after signing a big-money contract. But the former Serie A star has failed to deliver the goods in MLS, showing only very brief flashes of the brilliance that Napoli supporters saw from him on a regular basis.
Insigne started to pay back TFC’s long-suffering fans on Sunday, scoring a spectacular goal to lift the Reds to a 1-0 road win over the New England Revolution.
The Italian DP broke the deadlock on a broken play just before the half-hour mark. Federico Bernardeshci’s shot from just inside the box deflected off New England’s Dave Romney and the ball fell fortuitously to Insigne. The Italian was allowed to linger in possession inside the penalty area before chipping a gorgeous attempt over goalkeeper Henrich Ravas and into the top right corner of the net.
