Tyrese Spicer shines in 1st start of season for Toronto FC

CINCINNATI – There weren’t too many obvious positives from Toronto FC’s latest setback, a 2-0 defeat at the hands of FC Cincinnati on Saturday at TQL Stadium.
But one silver lining for the Reds was the play of sophomore attacker Tyrese Spicer, who earned his first start of the campaign after only seeing 25 minutes of action across the team’s opening two matches.
On a night when scoring chances were at a premium, the 24-year-old Trinidadian gave Toronto a bit of an attacking spark with his speed and probing runs down the left side. At the same time, he put in a solid defensive shift while operating as a wingback in coach Robin Fraser’s back five, and held his own against Luca Orellano, Cincinnati’s dangerous winger.
