TORONTO – While looking unspectacular so far this season, a rebuilding Toronto FC continues to produce credible performances while racking up valuable points.
TFC earned a 1-0 victory against Charlotte FC in Saturday’s home opener at BMO Field, a contest that was pretty drab and didn’t offer much entertainment value until Lorenzo Insigne’s highlight-reel goal in the 80th minute.
A tightly contested affair appeared destined to end in a draw before Insigne peeled off the left wing, took advantage of not being closed down and ripped a gorgeous shot from 25 yards that nestled inside the far post. The Italian ran to the sidelines to hug coach John Herdman after scoring as the announced crowd of 26, 345 roared in approval.
