CanMNT Talk: Hiring of Jesse Marsch not business as usual
Are there potential conflicts of interest stemming from the philanthropic contributions made by the three Canadian MLS clubs?
It took some time, but Canada Soccer finally found a full-time replacement for John Herdman.
Canadian soccer's governing body announced on Monday the hiring of Jesse Marsch as the new coach of Canada's men's team.
Marsch, the former coach of Leeds United, RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bulls and Montreal Impact, takes over immediately with a contract that runs through July 2026. The men's side had been without a full-time coach since Herdman stepped down last summer. Mauro Biello had been serving as the team's interim coach since then.
This was very much "business unusual" from Canada Soccer. For starters, newly installed general secretary Kevin Blue brought former national team players and stakeholders into the interview process to find a new coach.
