TFC prospect Dumitru aims to follow in Osorio's footsteps
Fresh off his debut for the first team, TFC 2's Andrei Dumitru is eager to continue to develop and learn from the Reds' captain.
TFC 2 midfielder Andrei Dumitru still has the image saved on his phone.
Dumitru made his first team debut in Toronto FC’s 5-0 win over Simcoe County Rovers on April 24 in the Canadian Championship when he came on at the start of the second half. After the final whistle blew, the 17-year-old spotted his parents in the stands at BMO Field and ended up taking a special photo to commemorate the milestone moment in his young career.
“My whole family and a lot of friends were there. They were all asking for tickets, so I did my best to get them all in. A close family friend gave me a [hand-made] poster after the game. It had my name on it, and my number, and the Canadian and Romanian flag, and he threw it down from the stands. So, I took it to the locker room, and I got it signed by the whole team,” Dumitru told TFC Republic.
Dumitru beamed with pride as he pulled out his phone to show this reporter a photo of the signed poster. He has since gone on to earn his first start for the Reds when he played 76 minutes and collected an assist in the team’s 8-1 destruction of CS Saint-Laurent at home in the second leg of the quarter-finals on May 21.
