TORONTO – This was the performance that Toronto FC fans had been waiting for from Federico Bernardeschi for a very long time.
While playing some great soccer this season, Bernardeschi was nonetheless mired in a terrible goal drought that stretched back to last summer. But the Italian put that to bed and brought the TFC faithful to their feet with a two-goal effort to lift his side to a 3-1 victory over FC Dallas on Saturday night at BMO Field.
Bernardeschi also collected an assist on substitute Matty Longstaff's first goal for the Reds to cap off a superb man-of-the-match display.
The brace snapped Bernardeschi’s goal drought at 19 consecutive games – he hadn’t scored since netting two goals in a 3-2 home loss to CF Montreal last August. At the same time, his goals helped Toronto extend its winning streak to four games in all competitions.
