- Canada 3 (David 23’; Shaffelburg 30’, 67’), Suriname 0

TORONTO – That’s more like it.
After a laborious effort four days ago, the Canadian men’s team made amends with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Suriname on Tuesday night in the second leg of its Concacaf Nations League quarter-final before an announced crowd of 13,239 at BMO Field.
Ex-Toronto FC winger Jacob Shaffelburg bagged a brace and Jonathan David also scored for Canada who won the aggregate series 4-0 to clinch a berth in next winter’s Nations League Finals. The Canadians only needed a draw to advance after earning a 1-0 win in Paramaribo last week courtesy of Junior Hoillet’s late goal, while Suriname was facing a must-win situation.
Canada is No. 35 in the current FIFA world rankings, compared to No. 136 Suriname. Mexico (No. 16), the United States (No. 18) and Panama (No. 39) also booked their spots in the Nations League final four. Canada will meet Mexico in the semifinals.
