TFC Talk: Inconsistent midfield didn't produce enough in attack
Toronto FC beat reporter James Grossi examines how the team's core of midfielders performed as a collective unit in 2024.
Toronto FC's midfield looked a little different in 2024 compared to last season.
No longer able to rely on Michael Bradley, TFC brought in Deybi Flores to fortify the middle of the park, while also adding fellow newcomer Matty Longstaff to serve as a midfield connector, similar to ex-Red Marky Delgado.
Coach John Herdman also used a double pivot for most of the season, relying on Spaniard Alonso Coello and Kosi Thompson to hold things down in central midfield, while Jonathan Osorio embraced the challenges of replacing Bradley as the team's captain.
TFC Republic spoke to fellow Toronto FC beat reporter James Grossi, who also operates the Unattached FC website, to evaluate how the team's midfield core performed as a collective unit in 2024.
